My sister was diagnosed with a stage 4 GBM on 2/2016 and I see what this horrible disease does to patients and families. We have luckily been at the forefront of medical innovations and truly believe with the right funding we can cure Brain cancer. This race will allow me and some of my family members to give back.

I crossed the Canyon Last year. It was the hardest thing I had ever done and at the same time amazing. I would love to do it again in honor of my sister and others I know who have battled this cancer.

My 34 year old step-daughter was diagnosed with Anaplastic Astrocytoma in April 2016. The rest of 2016 was focused on surgeries, radiation, and chemotherapy for Kristi, and care giving for Kristi and her family (2 boys aged 10 and 5 and husband Ben). We have accepted that the future with this diagnosis is a journey and we embrace every opportunity to support Kristi’s immediate and long-term needs.

As a part of this journey we are ready in 2017 to support the larger brain cancer community. Our family has always been very active (hiking, biking, snowshoeing, running, etc) and even though Kristi is sidetracked for the time being, my wife and I want to carry on and participate in physical outdoor activities this year with a specific purpose and result of supporting brain cancer awareness and research.

My sister, Amanda, lost her battle to a glioblastoma on December 30, 2016. Her one wish, before and after her diagnosis was to visit the Grand Canyon. This is my way to honor her, for us to stand, and witness the beauty of the Grand Canyon together.

The lack of interventions, funding, and research that encompass the diagnosis of a brain tumor will not change unless we, as a community, advocate, ensuring innovative research is realized, funded, and that it ultimately yields new therapies or treatments for patients. This is my way to give back and speak out for those who have lost their voice to this horrible disease. I want to raise money for Brain Cancer. I recently lost a sister to brain cancer.

I am doing this trek first and foremost for Kristi, and also for my Mom who is a breast, uterine, brain, and colon cancer survivor. These two women have shown me the true meaning of strength, endurance, and stamina.

As a part of the Primacy team, i walked rim-to-rim last year. The people and stories and views and experience were so good I needed to do it again. And if i can participate in something that can hopefully help prevent someone I know or dont know avoid or beat brain cancer, count me in!
