I am hiking rim-to-rim across the Grand Canyon this September in order to help those who are battling brain cancer. I’m taking on this challenge with 3,000 Miles to a Cure and Team Primacy in honor of all those who are facing one of the toughest, most inspiring struggles of them all – fighting brain cancer; this with the hope that we can make great strides in finding a cure, or treatment, so no others need to endure this disease.

My father passed away from a brain tumor five years ago. I am joining my Mom and her friend in this race to end brain cancer.

My Sister-in-law is in the final stages of Brain Cancer and I would like to raise funds to help fight this terrible disease that strikes so quickly.

Any funds I am able to raise I am sure will go to a very worthwhile cause to help in this fight.

The love of my life, Tom Price, died of GBM June 2016. Tom wished donations to be made to ABC2 and we raised a tidy sum for this wonderful brain research advocacy group. My 3 children and I are looking for ways to honor Tom and when I discovered the Crossing the Canyon venture at ABC2 Annual Mtg., I knew this was a cause for me.The prospect of being in this stunning, natural , challenging environment, hiking this Canyon, for a tremendously important cause with like minded souls, takes my breath away and fills me with dedication and joy.

I’m Crossing the Canyon in honor of my husband, Jonathan Bass, who died in 2007 after a long struggle with brain cancer. I’m dedicating my crossing to our two awesome boys, William (19) and Christopher (16). Jonathan and I met through rowing while graduate students at Oxford. He’d been diagnosed with a benign tumor at the age of 21, but he survived four surgeries and 21 more years, including three years with a glioblastoma. He never let cancer define him – in the later stages, he scheduled his chemo treatments around rowing regattas – and he was an inspiration to many. I’m Crossing the Canyon with my great rowing buddy, Gail Zaharek, who lost her best friend, also a rower, to brain cancer. Together, we want to raise awareness and generate funding for new treatments that will help the next generation of brain cancer patients.

I would like to participate in the 2017 Crossing of the Canyon not only bring awareness to brain cancer but also to honor my husband.
My husband was 50 years old when he passed away from a garde 2 astrocytoma. He was a physician in our town and he loved life. He had a wonderful laugh and a huge red headed personality. He loved meeting people and learning about everyone. We have four wonderful children and we miss him dearly.

Three years ago I was diagnosed with hodgkins lymphoma. I have been cancer free for two years and would love to make this journey for not only my husband and my family, but also for myself.

Those touched by brain tumors, be it a family member or friend, cannot escape the impact of this terrible disease.  I hope to raise awareness of the disease and, more importantly, raise funds for NEW research into NEW therapies.  So many promising treatments on the horizon are at a standstill waiting for our dollars necessary to move forward.  Thank you for your support!

I am hiking across the Grand Canyon this September with a good friend, Kristen Erickson Bass in memory of her late husband, Jon who lost his battle to brain cancer in 2007. During the time Jon’s health was declining, Kristen and I spent a lot of time rowing and racing together in a double. Now ten years later, I’m honored to memorialize Jon’s life with Kristen.

My sister-in-law, Anne Murray currently lives with brain cancer. Anne is surviving over 14 years of multiple cancers and has crossed off more bucket list items than most of us will. Her approach to cancer has been to live each day as fully as she can. Her positive attitude and sense of humor are admirable, and she is currently off chemo for the first time in years.

Michele Washburn was my best friend from college and my maid of honor who died of brain cancer at the age of 41. Michele was the strongest fighter I have ever known. We rowed together on the Ithaca College crew and she was always able to surpass her expected strength and power for her size.

In June of 2015 my dad was diagnosed with Stage 4 Glioblastoma Multiforme. He underwent a craniotomy in October 2015 where he had a significant majority of the tumors removed. As a result I tried to learn as much about the disease as I could and was saddened to find that there is far less research on this form of cancer than others. I want to do my part to change that. I have an extremely strong network of excellent people that would love to help out with this cause too and believe that I can raise a significant amount of funding.
